What's In This Blog

I created this blog for my journal. I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In this blog I keep many of the things I come across as a member of the church. I also share my experiences on the ACE Train and getting to work, my experiences in Manteca where we have lived for three years, and other things I think are noticeable.

Parables of Jesus: The Parable of the Talents

Very interesting concept; with the Lord is doesn't matter when we accept Him, but that we do accept Him.

Parables of Jesus: The Parable of The Laborers In The Vineyard

This concept is very interesting.  With the Lord is does not matter when we accept Him, but that we do accept Him.  All will receive their reward.

Parables of Jesus: The Parable of the Ten Virgins

The key to understanding this parable is knowing what the oil in the lamps represents.  If the oil represents your own testimony of Jesus Christ, then it is understandable that the five virgins could not share, for each must stand on their own testimony.  It is also understandable why the bridegroom, representing Jesus, would say I know you not, for we must know the savior.  The first principle of the gospel is faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.  My heart swells when I think of Jesus and his atonement.

Parables of Jesus: The Prodigal Son

This is the classic story about two sons.  Too often we focus on one son, and forget the ever so poignant story of the elder son, who is always with his father, but still feels envy when his brother returns.  With regards to the wayward son, Jesus says "He came to himself."  Those are powerful words.  To come to yourself are words of repentance, and humility.

Parables of Jesus: The Parable of the Lost Sheep

The heavens shall rejoice more over the sinner who repents, than the 99 that need no repentance.

The Good Shepherd and Other Sheep I Have

Hear the power in the words of Jesus from John 10:
17  Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again.
 18
No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father.

Parables of Jesus: Parable of the Wheat & Tares, Mustard Seed, and Leaven

Thee parable presented, all dealing with the Kingdom of Heaven and the judgement.  First the Wheat and tares, then the mustard seed, and then leaven bread.  the last two deal with the growth which comes through the Kingdom of Heaven, while the first deals with the judgment.  From the mustard seed, as from the leaven we learn that by small means great thing take place.  The mustard plant will be a resting place for birds, just as we when touched by the gospel become a resting place for others through service.  Leaven works on the inside, on the heart.  But we can see the effect in the rising of the dough.  The entire loaf is effected by the leaven.

Ye Have Done it Unto Me

This is a very powerful lesson taught in the New Testament, and portrayed her through LDS Bible Videos.  This is one of Jesus' parables, and is one of my favorites,  "In as much as ye have done it unto one of the least of these thy brethren, ye have done it unto me."  I hope those words welcome me some day.

Bible Video: Jesus Explains the Parable of The Wheat and the Tares

Bible Videos: Parables.  I find the meaning of the wheat and tares rather obvious, at some point, at the end of the harvest there will be a separation made.

In this second video, Jesus declares and explains the meaning behind the Parable of the Wheat and the Tares.

LDS Bible Videos: Parable of the Sower

Parable of the sower is very interesting.  It tells the story of the different kinds of soil, which are related to people's hearts as they receive the word.  Some hearts are as the seed falling by the wayside, and due to the hardness of their hearts the perceive it now, and some hearts are like stony soil, where the seed takes root, but because the roots are shallow they do not stand the day of trial.  And then there are seed which fall into weedy and thorny soil, where their friends' and scorn and criticism snuff out the word.  And some seed falls into good soil where it brings an abundant harvest.

Bible Video: Seek Ye the Kingdom of God

https://www.lds.org/media-library/video/2011-10-061-seek-ye-the-kingdom-of-god
I think the conclusionary statement says it all:  "Where your treasure is, there will your heart be also."
In my life, I have stopped to think from time to time, do I do for the honors of men, or do I do to honor God.  I have have to check myself from time to time; But want to think that I honor God in all things.
I really enjoyed this short video.  The emotion that Jesus puts into the words makes them come to life.  The camera also pans over the audience and their reaction to his words.
