Nebraska I80 Rest Area: Ogallala Eastbound

 Ogallala Eastbound rest area has a very unique building.  It is along the Blue Star Memorial Highway.  It has recurring wheat fields in the facade.  It also provides information on why there are so many lakes that seem to follow the highway.

Nebraska Odyssey: Sesquicentennial Mural: South Omaha Mural Project

 This mural is on the corner of 36th and Q Streets.  It is on the side of the Nuestra Familia supermarket.  It is part of the South Omaha Mural Project.  It depicts the history of Nebraska, from left to right.  The mural depicts the rural farm life against the city life of the stockyards of South Omaha.

Welcome to Omaha/Bellevue: Parks: American Heroes Park

 When I move to a new place I like to check out the parks.  I have visited a few, but now want to start recording and sharing what I have found.  The American Heroes Park is unique in its playground equipment.  Some of it is very challenging.  Anthony helped the littles on the zip line.  There were also features even challenging for adults.  

I understand the park was recently redone due to flooding.  And they have reallynoverdone.  I do not thing the hero part is yet completed, but the fishing pond, walks and playground more than make up for it.  There is still no plumbed bathroom but just portapotties.  flush toilets are at Haworth park across Mission.

Fremont Lakes State Park

 Fremont Lakes is a series of sand pit lakes close to the Platte River.  There are over 20 lakes.  Most do not allow fast boat but kayaks and swimming are cool.  Jeremy and Mark and families were visiting so we too a day trip to the lakes.  This was our first time there but we may be back.  We had a sandwich lunch with potato chips.  It turned out to be a pretty fun day.  I even got in.  Camberly said the further out the warmer the water would be.  I never found the warm spot.

Trip to Pick Up Caleb Day 2: Across Utah, and Wyoming, and Nebraska

We made an early start, and were in Evanston for breakfast, milk and Chocodiles, and then across the state with only gas and rest area stops.  We followed the pioneer trail, and when we got further on I tried to get a good picture of the Platte River from the window, but it was elusive, darting behind trees or going away from the freeway.  However, I finally got it when we stopped for lunch at Grand Island.  We finally crossed the Missouri into Iowa, and then headed for Sheri's brother's house, Terry.  We were able to set up camp in the basement.   We discovered, 410 miles across Nevada, 400 across Wyoming and 450 across Nebraska.
