What's In This Blog

I created this blog for my journal. I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In this blog I keep many of the things I come across as a member of the church. I also share my experiences on the ACE Train and getting to work, my experiences in Manteca where we have lived for three years, and other things I think are noticeable.

Charity's Spring Concert with Omaha Sings

Nothing I like more than hearing my kids sing.  They are so much more talented than I am,  Charity sings with Sing Omaha woman's choir.  There was also a girls choir and a master chorale  which is a mixed group.  Their spring concert was based on a theme of "Choral Canvases: Where Art and Music Meet." Each of the songs was related to a poem about nature.  The concert was conducted by Dr. Matt Hill.  He wrote the music to three of the poems, and had artwork commissioned based on the theme.  These were "Afternoon on a Hill" by Edna Vincent Millay, "Kraken" by Alfred Lord Tennyson and "Shall I Compare thee to a Summer's Day" by William Shakespeare.

Below the thunders of the upper deep,
Far, far beneath in the abysmal sea,
His ancient, dreamless, uninvaded sleep
The Kraken sleepeth: faintest sunlights flee
About his shadowy sides; above him swell
Huge sponges of millennial growth and height;
And far away into the sickly light,
From many a wondrous grot and secret cell
Unnumbered and enormous polypi
Winnow with giant arms the slumbering green.
There hath he lain for ages, and will lie
Battening upon huge sea worms in his sleep,
Until the latter fire shall heat the deep;
Then once by man and angels to be seen,

In roaring he shall rise and on the surface die.

These are a couple short excerpts from her spring concert.

Weekend of Activities: February 6-8

Our weekend started with going to the kid's school to watch Hayley cheer lead.  Then to Charity's for dinner, salmon and rice.  For movie night we watched Father of the Bride with Steve Martin.

Saturday  I headed west to Buena Vista High School to get a picture of the tree of life mural and across the street is the Cold Springs informational bulletin.  I also visited South Omaha Library.

That afternoon we visited Fontenelle forest and did the boardwalk hike. This hike gives a good view of the Missouri River and even tall buildings in Omaha.  You can see the top of the bridge by Charity's house.

Kids enjoyed the playground.

That evening we went to downtown Omaha to the Slow Down Bar for Charity's concert performance with Sing Omaha.  She is in the women's choir.  The master chorale also sang.  They sang pop songs, each group sang six and then one together.  I enjoyed "Listen to the Music" "Man Eater" and "Summer Breeze."  It is very crowded downtown, and especially in the bar.  Parking was also very hard.  We also visited the Cone Flower and I ate butter brickle ice cream.  It is as good as advertised.
Sunday I lead the music in church for the first time with this new calling.  We went to dinner with the Anders and I learned of some new places to visit in Papillion.

Charity Concert with Omaha Sings

 Charity had her concert this past Sunday.  She performs with Sing Omaha Woman's Chorus.  They sang a new song Magnificat,  I provide a short excerpt.  They sang in a large Southern Methodist church in Papillion. In addition to Charity's choir there was the master choir which is a mixed choir, and se veral youth choirs and a children's choir.  It made for a fun afternoon.

Hard to get a good view of Charity while they were singing.
