High School Choir Concert Bellevue West

 The choir concert yesterday at Bellevue West featured high school choirs from throughout the area, including Central, Millard South, Omaha Burke, Bennington, and Bellevue East.  There were a couple more high schools b ut I was not good at catching the names.  A friend from church told me of the concert, so I went.  

The music was good, mostly classical.  East Bellevue sang "For Good" from the musical.  The also sang Shenandoah which I sang in high school.  There was a song with beat boxing.  There were several a'cappella numbers.  Central sang all a'cappella, and to of Bellevue west's songs were a'cappella.  It was an enjoyable evening.  The auditorium was impressive.  It had a large screen monitor in the foryer so one could watch while chasing babues.  It had a really high ceiling, and was very large.  They said is was new.  THey also said the particular concert has been going on for 46 years.

Charity's Concert and Girls' Birthdays

 I went to Charity's concert this week after watching Camberly play soccer for her school.  She sings in the Sing Omaha Women's Choir.  Both Cam and Hayley have had recent birthdays turning twelve and ten.  Charity's concert was very good.  I arrived barely on time as wanted to run home quickly to change my shirt.  They sang Vivaldi.  The concert was in a church in western Omaha.

Christmas Concert Thursday and Sunday

I like to sing for the Holidays, especially spiritual Christmas music.  the manteca Stake is joining with the St. Pauls United Methodist choir and bell choir to perform a couple evenings this week.  You are most welcome to attend, and I understand there will be snacks after.  I am not privy to the entire program, but the men sing a son, the women sing one, with the Bell choir the choir is performing "Carol of the Bells."  The choir is also singing "Joy to the World" and "What Shall I give?"  We are also singing O Holy Night with soloists.  Caleb's high school choir teacher will be one of the soloists.  This year the are recommending donating food items for St. Paul's pantry.

 This is another song from Tony's concert.  The seventh and 8th graders sang two together, and then the 5-6th joined for three numbers.  This is the second group concert.  This represents about six school choirs from the manteca area.

Caleb's choir finally had a formal concert.  They had missed previous ones as they were very involved with the musical rather than choir rehearsal.  Caleb received a certificate for section leader and another reward for attitude.

San Joaquin Distrist Honor Choir: 2013: Caleb Wardle

For the second year (both years we have lived here) Caleb was in the district honor choir.  Caleb sang the tenor solo.  I am posting a couple song now, and will wait for the DVD to post the rest.  We also watched orchestra and band.  Caleb was the only guy from Sierra High School.  There were also three women.  Clayton Williams from our ward and Manteca High School was in the concert band.  Ben Tolman was also in the band as was Joshua Cook from "Hot Spud."

Life in Manteca and Cupertino 42

This has been another week of concerts, four in all, two in Manteca, and two in Cupertino.  This week has been the Cupertino High School Spring Concert under the direction of Mr. Arons.  This concert featured Capella performing "Lion King" (Nancy Orton did costumes.)  Adam Ure and Scott DChye were giraffes--very tall boys.  Alyssa Orton was a lion.  The men did Beach Boys, and the women's groups "Mary Poppins" and "Wicked."  Mary Poppins is an old favorite. One thing funny was they performed "Changed for Good" which was also presented in the Manteca High School Concert.

Sheri came to town for MD appointment and discovered "Starzz on Stage" was performing.  This is a younger version of the company all the kids danced and sang for.  It was at the Cupertino church, in the gym, so we saw many old friends.  We also saw many young people when the kids performed, who are not so young now.  They sang and danced to "Fun, Fun Fun" which the men of Cupertino High School performed a couple days before.  They ended with "God Bless the USA" which my kids use to also end with when they were in Starzz.

It was also the Sierra High School Spring concert.  Caleb again sung his solo "For the Longest Time."  There were a few new songs.  One was a women's song.  Caleb received a couple awards.  One for being section leader, and the other for the best helper and attitude called the

Finally, today, Caleb with "Hot Spud" performed a three song set for "Battle of the Bands" in Manteca.  Two songs I have previously shared, but I recorded the third which featured a solo vocal.  Caleb was on drum all three songs.

The Battle of the Bands was at the Senior Center, and I discovered some more murals.  For the most part the depict local farming scenes and history.  I apologize for the blurry nature of some, the lights were dim for the concert.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xRbp1aXKeCY

Caleb has Four Concerts in One Week

Monday March 26, Caleb had he Sierra High School Choir Feeder Concert.  They invited four K-8 schools to join them.  Caleb's choir concert was today Monday March 26.  They did four numbers, including a joint one with the 4-8 choirs.  The 4-8 choirs did another four concerts.  Two of our neighbors were with the Veritas School choir, Ariel who lives out our front door and Elyse who lives out the back door.

Life in Manteca 32: Caleb's County Choir

Caleb started his high school choir career in Manteca this past Saturday.  It is different here because at Sierra High School the are on a block schedule where they take four classes at a time, but a different class each semester.  Consequently beginning choir is the first semester and advanced choir the second.  Caleb took advanced choir, and did not start in choir until this semester.  However he did try out for County Choir, and this is his first concert.  There were two men from Sierra High School in the choir and ten women.  Caleb sang with the tenors.  Alyssa, Caleb's girl friend sings alto and was in the choir.
German Aquilar was the guest conductor for the County Choir.  He is the regular conductor at San Joaquin Delta  College.  Amy Dahlstrom, who conducts choir in Lodi, was the guest accompanist.  The performance was very good.  The highlight was the last song, "Dubula."  This is a South African song with choreography.
There were also band and orchestra presentations.
Choir at the high school this year is going to be different.  There are about 12 men in the choir.  Last year there were no men in the choir.  The choir director is Mr. Talcott.  Many of the songs selected are for women only, and the men are having to create their own part.  Their first concert as a high school choir is next month.  It will be fun to see how they do.  The links below are to county choir.
