Refugee Empowerment Center/ Center for Immigrant and Refuge Advancement Murals

The building at 4223 Center in Omaha has murals on all four sides.  David Manzanares is credited as the artist.  The front of the building is less mural and more mosaic butterflies.

Views Downtown Omaha at Dodge and Sixteenth, FNBO Tower

 At the concert at the FNBO Tower is took good note of the area.  There was a nice plaza outside the FNBO Building and the tower provided shade for most of it.  Sites included the Spirit of America statues, geese and buffalo, fountains, a mural and the tower itself.  The FNBO building has an atrium with more geese statues inside.  I couldn't get in not being an employee but took pictures through the glass.

Council Bluffs Golden Spike

 When Omaha was celebrating the release of the movie Union Pacific, Council Bluffs erected a large golden spike for their part.  The golden spike represents the starting point of the Union Pacific Railroad.  It is 59 feet high and weighs 243,000 pounds.  In 1877 a passenger station and transfer station was located on this site.  In 1939 Omaha hosted a large celebration for the 70 year anniversary of the golden spike and the premier of the Cecil B. Demille movie Union Pacific.  Council Bluffs city engineer Jack Boyne suggested building the spike at this location marking the eastern terminus of the Union Pacific.  It took 14 men ten days to build it.  The spike is on 9th Avenue by lots of railroad tracks between 20th and 21st streets.

Cancer Survivors Park is on Pacific east of the 680 and just after passing of Papillion Creek.

The layered tunnel reminds me of going through cancer on thing at a time.  It also reminds me of MOHS surgery, removing one layer at a time.

Wicked at the Orpheum, Omaha

 I love Wic ked.  Miranda got tickts and I went with four women, Charity and two granddaughters, and Miranda.  We parked in a garage and crossed the skywalk to the theater.  We had very good seats in the balcony.  We could see everything.  The highlight of the evening was the song For Good.  I love that song.  Several other songs are also very good, but that is my favorite.  We had a great night.

Fourth of July 2026

 Fourth of July started with the ward breakfast.  It was at a home this year, changed from a park due to weather.  The weather was pretty bad so I had to go alone.  I was helping with the music.  We sang a couple patriotic songs.  The weather cleared for juwt long enough to get breakfast in; Pancakes and lots of raspberries.  However after the meal the rain came back.  Somebody said it would clear, but I was wet enough and didn't stay.  

We had the traditional Fourth of July meal at our house.  Sheri made a terrific potato salad.  Riley really enjoyed her corn on the cob.

Evening we all went to the Heartland Park for fireworks.  The concert from Gene Lehy Mall was piped over.

The fireworks started as soon as the concert was over.  In fact the or chestra played through some of the fireworks.

We concluded at Charity's for home fireworks.  We also had a nice view of the moon.  We got home close to midnight.
