What's In This Blog

I created this blog for my journal. I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In this blog I keep many of the things I come across as a member of the church. I also share my experiences on the ACE Train and getting to work, my experiences in Manteca where we have lived for three years, and other things I think are noticeable.

BYU Stanford NIT Basketball

Grandpa is visiting; and he is a big BYU fan.  So we went to the BYU game together since they were playing close.  It was a very good game.  The song leaders signed the National Anthem.  The jazz band members bounced up and down, the saxophones more than the trumpets.  The refs stunk.  They didn't give Yoeli Childs a chance, putting him in foul trouble early, and then fouling him out.  It was those crazy rebounding fouls that did him in, two of them at the first of the game.  However Elijah Bryant had a good game, and almost carried BYU to overtime, but not quite.  Stanford had difficulty shooting foul shots, but shot a lot more than BYU, over twice.  BYU had a hard time making threes.  BYU was short handed under the basket, and by the end of the game were down to just one big man.  Crazy thing is they didn't charge for parking, and the tickets were only $20.

The After-basketball Party at the Bouncy Place

Tony was pretty proud he made it to the top

Sheri took him on the Monday after basketball.  The other kids were part of his team.

Tony's Last Basketball Weekend

Tony's last weekend ended in one victory and one defeat.  Tony placed against a team made of of many of his friends from church.  I don't think either team played well, and it wasn't Tony's best game.  However he did play good defense.  ton's team won by three points, but both teams missed a lot of shots.  Tony said he got his hand on the last shot, and deflected it enough it missed, of the other team which would have tied the game.

Tony played much better the second game, and was a big man on both offense and defense.  He had half a dozen points and helped control the ball.  However they played a better team and were defeated.  This was an end of the season tourney, so they made the semi-finals.  Had they won they would have had another game on Sunday.
We took Tony to Waffle House after the first game, where he had a chocolate milkshake.

Tony's First Basketball Game

Tony made two shots the first half, and more the second.  However his team did not do as well.  They were behind 17-5 at the half, but played better the second half.

Sky View, My Alma Mater Takes State in Basketball

What an incredible week in Logan.  For the first time in history, the three Cache Valley schools met in the semi-finals at the State 4-A basketball tournament.   Mountain Crest beat Logan, and Sky View beat Bountiful to set up a cross county final.

Sky View won the semi-final on an incredible shot.

I caught the second half of the Sky View-Mountain Crest game. It was broadcast through Deseret News.  I must admit I was rooting for Mountain Crest.  Not only is this school only a couple blocks from our home growing up (It wasn't there when I went to high school and we were bused to Smithfield to Sky View) but Gaje Ferguson is a member of the team.  Gaje lived in our ward in Cupertino while his dad was going to chiropractic school.  He was a good friend of Caleb's as they are the same age.  He visited them a couple times after they moved to Logan and we were home with my mother.  They since moved to Mendon.  Here is a picture of Gaje after the semi-final victory.
