2019 Pioneer Day Concert with Sissel - Music for a Summer Evening

Fascinating music; and Sissel has a beautiful voice.  The concert had two themes.  After the choir started with pioneer songs they mostly sand African American Spirituals.  While Sissel sang songs from her native land, as well as many spiritual songs.  The song "Slow Down" is a show stopper.

2018 Pioneer Day Concert with Special Guests - Music for a Summer Evening

This is a must see.  What isn't to love, Rogers and Hammerstein songs, Matthew Morrison and Laura Michelle Kelly from "Finding Neverland" the musical, and narration by the grandson of Oscar Hammerstein.  Whether is is the coir, or the performers providing solos or duets, this is one show stopper after another.  This may be the best Pioneer Concert ever. 

Mormon Tabernacle Choir Concert

The Choir was in Mountain View at the Shoreline Amphitheatre June 25.  They were excellent. They went from song to song very rapidly. 

I looked hard for Sheri's cousin.  I never saw her and later discovered that as a first year choir member she does not tour with the choir.  My particular favorite was "Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing."  They did some crazy clapping with "Betelehemu."  As part of the encore a guest conductor from the San Francisco Gay Men's Choir conducted "This land is Your Land."  We had a great time.

Christmas with the Mormon tabernacle Coir and Rolando Villazon 2016

I have not been able to find the entire performance, but here is the first feature song presented by Rolando Villazon and the choir.  This concert included We Three Kings with mechanical animals, elephant, camel, etc marching to the stage.  Concert also featured Angela Brower, and the highlight of the night was she and Villazon and the choir singing some Christmas favorites including Silver Bells and White Christmas.  Villazon recited the story of the Little Match Girl and Luke 2.

A Dickens Christmas - John Rhys-Davies and the Mormon Tabernacle Choir

I love the storytelling.  John Rhys-Davies is a master story teller.  Here we have the story of Charles Dickens and "A ChristmasCarol" in a very different light.  They are flying around the tabernacle and discovering the spirit of Christmas.  Makes me wonder if this may be the inspiration for the movies about Charles Dickens released this year. 

The Little Match Girl, with Rolando Villazón - 2016 Christmas Concert

Here is the Little Match Girl Story in a different light, and with the Mormon tabernacle Choir providing song, and Rolando Villazon narrating the story.  I love this story, and this version is very memorable.

O Come, Little Children (Music Video) - Mormon Tabernacle Choir

This song is beautiful and is overplayed on the story of a cancer patient which adds even more.

Special Edition: 9/11 Rising Above - Music & The Spoken Word

This Music and The Spoken Word which commemorated the 10 year anniversary of 9/11 if truly inspirational.  The songs by the Mormon tabernacle Choir and the narration by Tom Brokaw really set a tone.  I especially like "Homeward Bound."  This is followed by
Amazing Grace."  Between those two songs there is magic which makes your senses stand on edge with enjoyment.

A Tribute to the Armed Services - Mormon Tabernacle Choir

Armed services day was last weekend.  the Manteca flags were out, and tony Sheri and I helped with taking them down.  The Mormon tabernacle sings the song of all branches of the service.

I hate to admit it, but this is going to sleep music.  Only the song about the Crucifixion had enough energy to keep me awake.  Also I couldn't understand many of the words of the soloists, especially the sopranos.  I wasn't watching close enough to get the titles every time, as the titles gave a hint as to what they were saying.

What a Wonderful World - Bryn Terfel and the Mormon Tabernacle Choir

This will give you tingles.  Bryn Terfel is an Welsh opera and concert singer.  

Mormon Tabernacle Choir featuring Katherine Jenkins

Katherine Jenkins is a Welsh singer, who is very familiar to the theater scene in England.  However to the American population she is more known for her appearance on Dancing with the Stars.  Her partner was Mark Ballas, and she makes a special appears to do a Latin dance with her, which I felt was the high light of the performance.  This is the 2012 Pioneer Day Concert, and the Choir starts with two pioneer songs,; but after that the focus is on the theme of the concert: The Joy of Song.  They have several people talk about their joy of music, including the guest, Mack Wilberg the conductor and a group of children.
Among other songs the choir sings, "In the Morning of my Life" a person favorite and It's a Grand Night for Singing.  Katherine Jenkins sings "The Prayer" with the choir.  The song is introduced by commentary by the composer, David Foster.  Jenkins also sings a Welsh song with the choir, "Cymru Fach."  Another high light of the concert is the concluding number "You'll Never Walk Alone" with Jenkins and the choir.  There is lots to enjoy here.

Mormon Tabernacle Choir in concert with Rebecca Luker, Dallyn Bayles, an...

This is the President Monson 85th birthday concert.  It is hosted by Steve Young and Jane Clayson Johnson.  It features the Mormon tabernacle Choir.  Soloist were Dallyn Vail Bayles, Rebecca Luker and Stanford Olsen.  The each sang two songs.  Bayles does a beautiful rendition of "Bring Hime Home" as well as "There But for You Go I."  His voice is clear and piercing and his sound is incredible.  Olsen sings 'Golden Days" and "The Holy City."  It gets emotions singing "The Holy City" which is likely the high light of the concert.  Lastly Rebecca Luker sings "Memories and 'All I ask of You."  The choir sings "You raise Me UP," "Seventy-six Trombones" and another high spot, "Consider the Lillies."  The concert includes portrayals of President Monson's life, as well as tributes from other general authorities and also the Boy Scouts.  This concert is very enjoyable.

Christmas Music Review: In the Dark Streets Shineth

With the book, "In the Dark Street Shineth" there is a C.D. which presents the Mormon Tabernacle Choir with the narrator David McCullough as they present the stories of "O Little Town of Bethlehem" and "I'll Be Home for Christmas."  The music is arranged and conducted by Mack Wilberg.  I thoroughly enjoyed this, and will return to it many times.  Nothing is greater than the choir singing Christmas songs.

Music and the Spoken Word: Christmas Special - Live Stream December 18, ...

The program starts at about minute 59.  This is the last show before Christmas.  In this set they combine with the Bell Choir which performs "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year."  The choir starts with a tradition "Oh, Come All Ye Faithful" and then the women sing "How far is it to Bethlehem.  The do an excellent job of presenting the wonder of children at Christmas with "Christmas Children" from Scrooge.  The highlight is the soft peaceful message of "Wexford Carol."  This starts with the men setting the peaceful tone, which is not lost throughout the song:
Good people all, this Christmas time,
Consider well and bear in mind
What our good God for us has done,
In sending His belovèd Son.
With Mary holy we should pray
To God with love this Christmas Day;
In Bethlehem upon the morn
There was a blest Messiah born.
They then conclude with Hallelujah form the Messiah.  

Dec 19: Jesus Calmed the Storm and So Can You

Calming the storm has two different aspects.  The first is calming the physical storm,  the floods, the earthquakes and other physical disasters.  For an example of this type of calming, please check this Helping hands video.  The second is calming emotional turmoil.  How do we make our homes a place of peace.  Listen to "Master the Tempest is Raging" by the Mormon tabernacle Choir.

Dec 15: Jesus Worshipped through Song and So Can You

I so much love Christmas, partially because of the music.  I was so bummed last year when I didn't get to sing in the Stake Musical Concert--Sunday and Thursday next week this year--it was the same day I burnt myself.  However this year will be different.  Also to enjoy music you can check out anything by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.  Our Family Sing-along is December 23 this year.  I know this is late in the year, but it allows for Natalia and grandpa to be here.  Please check the website Mormon.org for additional idea.

Music and the Spoken Word: Christmas Special - Live Stream December 11, ...

The choir is joined by Rolando Villazon, along with the handbell choir and the orchestra, to put one a Sunday morning Christmas extravaganza.  Villazon joins in singing "Campana sobre Campana" in Italian and "Angels from the Realm of Glory."  He also narrates the Christmas story.  The organ solo is an arrangement of "We wish you a Merry Christmas."
