What's In This Blog

I created this blog for my journal. I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In this blog I keep many of the things I come across as a member of the church. I also share my experiences on the ACE Train and getting to work, my experiences in Manteca where we have lived for three years, and other things I think are noticeable.

Are We Headed for a Strike?

Labor Relations  It looks very likely at this time that county workers will go on strike.  The county is offering very little, and the Union is asking for a lot.  I have been to a couple rallies, at the City Building and at the hospital.  We shall see, but I noted the union is asking for 9 percent a year with no take away and the county is offering 6 percent over 5 years with county worker paying two percent of their medical insurance.  If you do the math this is like no cost of living increase.  This is less than what persons who are retired receive.  So something has to give.

Safety Seminar from 2016

Safety Seminar 2016

I too the opportunity to attend the Safety Seminar presented by Santa Clara County to its employees.  It was at the Santa Clara Convention Center.   I attended break out sessions on surviving an active shooter situation, and on taking care of yourself.  The big theme for me was taking time to breathe.  The keynote speaker talked about breathing, the breakout speaker, and the booth by County Wise included information on breathing.
The other theme was "coming home."  Being aware of your environment, and setting limits as needed, so as to come home in the evening.  This includes trusting your instincts.  Many at active shooter situations do not believe what they are seeing, and so stay around to become a victim.  The point is to get away as quickly as you can; to be aware of alternative exits, to come home at the end of the day.

Work Lock-down Over Two Hours Thursday

At work this last Thursday (a day after the San Bernadino Murders) we were asked to stay indoors, lock the doors and stay away from all the windows.  This was at about 1:15 when we were asked.  We got messages on our computer telling us what was happening.  Someone had seen someone with a gun in building K (I don't know where that is) so the Sheriffs put the campus on lockdown and searched for this individual.  The individual did not make any threatening gestures or statements, he was just observed with a gun.  It wasn't until 3:30 when the lockdown was lifted.  They never did find the individual, but they did watch security tape enough to know that he had left the campus.
I had noted on Facebook that a friend was on lockdown in San Bernadino.  My experience was much different.  There was no real shooting.
During this incident our boss had been away, and they would not let him back into our work place.  He was across the street.  However after the lock down was lifted we were visited by all our big bosses from Mental Health Administration.
