My granddaughter is in a youth concert, and thereby gets two free tickets to the master works concerts of Omaha Symphony Orchestra. We went to the Beethoven's Fifth and Blue Beard opera concert this last Saturday. Beethoven's Fifth was amazing. They had a guest conductor, Lidiya Yankovskaya with Russian roots. She did not have music and must have had the whole score memorized in her head.
And then Blue Beard's Castle, with just two singers, and the Bard who introduced the opera. This tells a very dark story. There was special lighting by David Murakami for this which really enhanced the story. It used light and shadow and color. It was really cool.
My grand daughter said the opera was too long, but she loved the symphony. She plays viola and loves orchestra music. I liked both. Blue Beard is a new story to me. Someone who kills multiple wives is called a Blue Beard.
