Caleb's Talk, He is Leaving Wednesday for Mission in Iowa
How do I teach others about the importance of marriage and family?
So first, before we get into how to teach others about the importance of marriage and family I first wanted to discuss how important marriage and family really is. The family is something that is divine.
“In “The Family: A Proclamation to the World,” the First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve Apostles proclaim that “marriage between a man and a woman is ordained of God and that the family is central to the Creator's plan for the eternal destiny of His children.” When a man and woman are married in the temple, their family can be together forever. This is a common goal of Latter-day Saints. Life's greatest joys are found in the family. Strong family relationships require effort, but such effort brings great happiness in this life and throughout eternity. In our Heavenly Father's plan of happiness, a man and a woman can be sealed to one another for time and all eternity. Those who are sealed in the temple have the assurance that their relationship will continue forever if they are true to their covenants. They know that nothing, not even death, can permanently separate them.” Russell M. Nelson

What do Husbands and Wives have to inherit from the gospel?
-Brooke and Brandon in the temple.
D&C 132:19
Marriage is the foundry for social order, the fountain of virtue, and the foundation for eternal exaltation. Marriage has been divinely designated as an eternal and everlasting covenant. Marriage is sanctified when it is cherished and honored in holiness. That union is not merely between husband and wife; it embraces a partnership with God.” Russell M. Nelson
Divinity of the family
Where did we come from?
-We lived as a family before this Earth
A third of the hosts of heaven follow Satan
Adam and Eve existed as a family (1 corinthians 11:11)
In a Question and Answer meeting follow his discourse to the harvard school of law, Jeffrey R. Holland was asked if he could shed some light on the roles of women in the church. His reply was:
“The church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is more committed than any religious institution to the dignity and standing and worth and merit and glory of a woman in any way that I know to say it to you. We believe that the creation of a woman, was the crowning and final and most glorified moment of human creation. We start with light and dark and land and sea and we move to fish and foul and beasts of the field and we get to Adam and its still not good enough. The glory of human creation came with Eve, a woman.”
We believe that The link between a man and a woman is divine. Man and woman were meant to be with each other from the beginning of time. Its something that cannot and will not change in the eyes of our Lord and his Son Jesus Christ. Similar to this link between man and woman is the link between family members. We came from a family. Jesus Christ is the son of the Father. That has to give so much meaning to sons and the way we should treat our fathers. As parents and as sons and daughters, the one family we can look to for guidance and direction is the family of our Father in Heaven. We should pattern our family after the one who created them. Our Father in heaven.

What does the family have to inherit from the gospel?
Once sealed in the temple families have the opportunity to partake of Eternal life and exaltation.

The link between the atonement of Jesus Christ and marriage and Families
Through the plan of happiness we learn that we would have a savior on this Earth. Someone who would atone for our sins and who would make it possible for us to receive exaltation.

Teaching
In my view there are three different ways to teach investigators
We can teach by explanation, demonstration, and by actually letting the person we are teaching assume the role as the teacher.
Teaching by explanation
Explaining, or lecturing, is the process of teaching by giving spoken explanations of the subject that is to be learned. Lecturing is often accompanied by visual aids to help students visualize an object or problem.
So how do we teach others through explanation?
First we must study for ourselves
The blessings of teaching by the spirit and baring testimony of families and marraige frequently
Preach my Gospel pg. 3-4
How do we teach by demonstration
Demonstrating is the process of teaching through examples or experiments. For example, a science teacher may teach an idea by performing an experiment for students. A demonstration may be used to prove a fact through a combination of visual evidence and associated reasoning.
Demonstrations are similar to written storytelling and examples in that they allow students to personally relate to the presented information. Memorization of a list of facts is a detached and impersonal experience, whereas the same information, conveyed through demonstration, becomes personally relatable. Demonstrations help to raise student interest and reinforce memory retention because they provide connections between facts and real-world applications of those facts. Lectures, on the other hand, are often geared more towards factual presentation than connective learning.
So how can we demonstrate the importance of marriage and families?
I’ve done it already. I’ve shown you how my brother Tony has benefited from a family. Ive demonstrated for you the links between the plan of happiness and the roles of the family and marriage in that plan.
How do we teach others by letting them assume the role of the teacher
In this teaching method, students assume the role of teacher and teach their peers. Students who teach others as a group or as individuals must study and understand a topic well enough to teach it to their peers. By having students participate in the teaching process, they gain self-confidence and strengthen their speaking and communication skills.
By doing this we let the investigator teach themselves in a sense. We can start asking them the questions such as Why do you feel families are important? How has your marriage benefited you in your life? By doing this the investigator can realize for themselves the importance of marriage and families
