Mono Lake I wanted to visit Mono Lake and see the tufas. A tuft is a formation of mineral deposits made by water flowing to the surface in an underwater spring. The minerals harden and are left behind. These minerals accumulate and make some strange looking formations. The water is lower than its highest level so many tufts are no longer in the water. We visited at Mono Lake South Tufa. This is a federal reserve as is Navy Beach.
During WWII the navy had an experimental base here, resulting in the beach being given the name “Navy Beach.”
We entered Nevada close to Boundary Peak. Which is the highest peak in Nevada. The mountain is shared with California. We traveled out old route (from when we were first married), going through Tonopah and Currant Creek (the steer statue is no longer there) and then to Ely where we spent the night. The pool was not yet operational at our hotel due to too much snow. We ate at a pretty nice pizza place; Hometown Pizza. At least the pizza was good. This was a popular restaurant when we lived in the area; but it was not a pizza place.
