My Night at the Opera
Miranda and I used Charity's comp tickets and attended the opera last night. Charity and Anthony were in the chorus. I previously explained the story La Traviata. http://billywardlefamily.blogspot.com/2013/01/charity-is-in-opera-this-weekend-la.html
The lead, Violetta, happened to be played by someone Charity knew from performing in Troupe Cabana. Liisa Davila performed a song from Oklahoma in the Troupe review.
The company had 80s costume and set, rather than the traditional. It was staged in San Francisco. Consequently the lead character died from AIDS rather than TB. This allowed them to have a display of the Aids epidemic. They showed pictures of prominent victims. AIDS claims 1.8 million worldwide. TB 1.4 million.
The music was all unfamiliar to me, but the actors did an excellent job. My only complaint, it was a bit long. It took them a whole act for the death scene. But then, it was opera.
