What's In This Blog

I created this blog for my journal. I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In this blog I keep many of the things I come across as a member of the church. I also share my experiences on the ACE Train and getting to work, my experiences in Manteca where we have lived for three years, and other things I think are noticeable.

Safety Seminar from 2016

Safety Seminar 2016

I too the opportunity to attend the Safety Seminar presented by Santa Clara County to its employees.  It was at the Santa Clara Convention Center.   I attended break out sessions on surviving an active shooter situation, and on taking care of yourself.  The big theme for me was taking time to breathe.  The keynote speaker talked about breathing, the breakout speaker, and the booth by County Wise included information on breathing.
The other theme was "coming home."  Being aware of your environment, and setting limits as needed, so as to come home in the evening.  This includes trusting your instincts.  Many at active shooter situations do not believe what they are seeing, and so stay around to become a victim.  The point is to get away as quickly as you can; to be aware of alternative exits, to come home at the end of the day.

This is the second consecutive year, and third time overall, I attended the County Safety Seminar.  This seminar includes lunch with presentation of Safety Poster awards.  Madison Corona was the overall winner.  Tis included an employee recognition raffle and I actual won a move to the head of the class form Leaning Employee Development.

There was an keynote speaker; Safety: It Starts with You by Craig Harrison.
I attended three breakout sessions:
Move or Die--New Rules for the Seated Worker by Jeff Tiedeman
Safety Begins with You--Invest in Yourself by Frederick McPherson
The Night that Napa Shook--earthquake: Preparedness and Lessons Learned by Steve Hackett and Kerri Greene

Santa Clara Walk: Santa Clara Creek Trail: Art

In walking from the train station to the Santa Clara Convention Center, I go under the road by Levi Stadium along the Saratoga/San Thomas Aquino Creek Trail.  It fascinates me the artwork they have made into the trail with the cement.  It depicts all kinds of animals that might live along the trail.

However, even as pretty as this artwork is; it is nothing to the beauty of the real ducks I saw in the creek:

LDS General Conference October 2017

LDS General Conference continues this weekend.  All are invited to participate.  The sessions are live at the stake center, and are on BTUTV.  Times are (In California) 9 and 1 both Saturday and Sunday with an additional Saturday Priesthood session Saturday at 5.  The women's session was last weekend and can be found on the link provided.
I look forward to general conference as a time to rejuvenate and also as a time to get some things done as I watch.
The church has announced that both President Monson and Robert D. Hales will not be in attendance.

Tony: Primary Water Party

Some photos of Tony at the Primary Water Party last weekend.  I enjoyed myself.  They served pizza and watermelon.  The games looked fun.  I was helping with the obstacle course until my phone started ringing.  Most pictures are borrowed from others from Facebook with a few exceptions.
start of the obstacle course was a slip slide, then there was a field hockey section, go through the tube, ring toss and Frisbee throw.

Football Weather is Finally Here

To say that our summer has lingered for some tim, with scorching temperatures would be an understatement.  Just a couple weeks ago we were around 110 for a week, with hot temperatures before that.  When the temperature finally broke, it came with humidity, so there wasn't much relief.  However finally the temperature seems to have broken, and has turned to football season.  The ten day forecast shows some days hitting the low 90s, but compared to where we have been, that is great.  I can live with that.  And in the evening there is that nippy feel to the air that I love.

Elizabeth Smart Talks of Lessons on Chastity

Elizabeth Smart from LDS Living.
Sometimes, when we talk about chastity, we may be less than sensitive.  Elizabeth Smart uses her experiences as a kidnap and rape victim, to teach about what things might be hurtful to a young woman.  It gives something to think about.  Today, one in four women reports having been the victim of some type of rape or sexual assault, while one in fifty men report the same.  That is a lot of people.  Consequently it pays to be sensitive when talking about this subject.  When we are teaching, our class or group likely includes some of these people.  This article talks about some things often said, which are not very helpful for these victims.  It is important to remember that through the atonement of Jesus Christ all may be saved, all may be pure.  We are not spoiled goods.  To God, no one is spoiled goods.
I would encourage you click on the link and read the article.  It is very good.

Labor Day 2017

We started the day early, getting up to go to the temple for sealings.  There were seven of us.  Elis watched Charity's girls and Tony.  We took Todd to Jamyn's, and we were on our way.  We were able to complete something like 60 sealings, couples, sons and daughters.  The officiator announced there was rejoicing in heaven.
We got home just a bit later than we'd planned, for we had barbecue scheduled out our house with the neighbors for Caleb's, Annie's, Todd's and Miranda's last weekend.  We had invited the neighbors.  Sheri really outdid herself with the potato salad, macaroni salad, baked beans and everything else.  Caleb grilled the hot dogs and hamburgers.  Inexplicable I was too tired to do much else the rest of the day.

Happy Birthday to Annie

Annie's birthday is today, but we celebrated with dinner a few days ago as they are now back in Idaho.  Charity made German chocolate cake and we had salmon.  However Sheri also grilled chicken for those who don't care for fish.  However it was excellent, as was the chicken.

Saying Goodbye Is a Pain

My kids are headed back to BYU Idaho.  Caleb, Annie and Miranda all go to school there, and I guess school starts next week, so they are all headed back.  They all stayed the summer with us.  Yesterday morning I was up early to bid goodbye to Annie, Caleb and Baby Todd.
Yesterday it was Annie and Caleb's turn.  They had there car stuffed, and barely had room for bodies.   Of course Todd went with them.  They hoped to be off by 4, so I went down.  They got up just after 4 and were off before 5.

Next day we were destined to do the same thing.  Sheri is taking Miranda to school, while I am staying home guarding the house and making it so Tony doesn't miss school.  They left just after 5 today.  They had to wake me up to come down and say goodbye.
