What's In This Blog

I created this blog for my journal. I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In this blog I keep many of the things I come across as a member of the church. I also share my experiences on the ACE Train and getting to work, my experiences in Manteca where we have lived for three years, and other things I think are noticeable.

Life in Manteca 120: Miranda's Homecoming

Miranda reported her mission twice this Sunday.  Her talks were very nice.  She had more time in the adult ward and so that talk was a bit better.  In the singles ward she had to cut it a bit short.  Counsellor in the singles ward gave a funny talk on dating and marrying.  I wonder if they talk about that a lot.  I was really proud of Miranda.  Mark, Dianna and family as well as Jeremy Kayla and Charity were there for the Singles Ward talk.

Tony continues to do well at soccer.  He usually plays defender and is getting pretty good at it.  I think he could be a really good soccer player, but I really think his best sport is basketball.  He needs an older brother back to work him some.  He seems to be doing well in school.  I keep pushing him in Cub Scouts.  They are changing the program so he has until the end of June to finish his Wolf or he has to start over with the new program.  He has gotten four sports belt loops, flag football, fishing (he did at pack meetings) soccer and marbles.  He is really into ipad and ipod.  I guess he has inherited one of each.
Mom and Jeremy redid the entertainment center.  It now has drawers for putting the movies into.  I think we should get rid of some of the VCRs as they  take a lot of space.  However you never know when you want to watch a particular movie.  The DVDs take a lot less space however.  Mom and Miranda painted it white.  At first I didn’t like it, but with it decorated it looks ok.

Easter Sunday 2015

In addition to conference weekend, we had Jeremy Kayla and the boys, and Anthony Charity and Camberly over for Easter dinner.  We had plan an Easter egg hunt, but then ran out of time.  However we did dye eggs, and went to the park.  Anthony took the eggs he had filled with candy, and some from the neighbors and did a hunt the day after Easter.

Life in Manteca 118: Manteca Fries

Yahoo
Utah Mikes Grill at Logan's Lanes.  It's the fry sauce.
California Carne Asada fries in Pasadena
Idaho Purple fries at Boise Fry Company
Washington Pike Street Fish Fry in Seattle.
I came across an article from Yahoo, about the best fries in each of the 50 States.  I have eaten at only one of these places, the Washington Pike Street Fish Fry in Seattle.  And we did have fish and chips, but I was more interested in the fish (while everyone else had chicken) than the fries.  I remember we had more than enough fries, but I never thought they were fantastic.  And the Idaho winner is from Boise, which city I have visited but never the Boise Fry Company.  Maybe an Idaho date night.  I have been to Logan Lanes, but never tried the fries.  However, the Arctic Circle Restaurants in the area have pointed to the need for fry sauce, ketchup and Miracle Whip mixed.  We make this regularly, especially when Sheri has chicken and fry nights.  I have also not visited the California winner, of course from Southern California.  Carne asada fries may be too much, but we do have great carne asada in California.
But as for the best fries in Manteca, I must conclude that Sheri's are the best by a long ways.  You have the choice of dipping in ranch, ketchup, fry sauce or barbecue sauce.  Her fries will stand up to any in the country I am sure.  She makes them fresh, hand cut, and she always cooks them until they are golden.  When I cook fries I have a tendency to undercook them as I lack patience.
I had been of the opinion Del Taco had the best fries, but our last trip there they were undercooked and mushy.  They have the curly fries, and this experience was disappointing.  However Tony likes Del Taco for the play place.
One added note, I think now I lean to Red Robin as the best restaurant fries in Manteca.  Especially if eaten with the onion ring sauce.  This sauce combines fry sauce with barbecue sauce (something Tony does at home on fry night) and it is great on the bottomless steak fries.

Caleb: Baptism and Meeting Pictures

This is Caleb at an unexpected baptism.  Caleb and his companion taught what they thought was a part member family, teaching the husband and he was baptized.  However, when they reviewed the records they discovered the wife actually had never been baptized (although she thought she had as a child) and so the husband was able to baptize his wife.  Caleb reports this family has made great strides.  They are from his previous area in Fairfield and he was able to go to the baptism.

Caleb is now serving in Burlington, Iowa which is in the Nauvoo Stake and Zone.  As such he has more access to the temple.
These pictures are some I have found on Facebook from Sister Jensen's group.
