Health As I See It: Controlling Diabetes With Exercise

Although exercise is not the only part of controlling diabetes, this article from Everyday Health gives many good ideas about the reasons to exercise:  lower blood glucose, lower blood pressure, better cholesterol levels, better able to use insulin, stronger bones, less chance of falling, less risk of heart disease, easier weight loss, more energy, less stress.  SO how do you get these benefits.  Over a third of diabetics don't exercise.
Talk to your diabetes team ab out appropriate exercise.  Ideas to keep in mind are: 1. Find activities you like.  Also choose activities that are convenient. 2. Schedule your workouts.  Scheduling will make for greater likelihood of doing.  The goal is to eventually workout over a half our most days of the week.  3. Slowly increase time and intensity.  Don't start too fast.  An injury is a good way to ruin an exercise plan.  4.  Find an exercise partner.  5. Keep a work out journal.  Recording and reporting, if only to yourself, can be motivating.
